ST. THOMAS — On Tuesday at roughly 8:15 p.m., 43-year-old Gregory Anthony Beckford of Smith Bay turned himself in to police after being notified of a number of sexual assault charges levied against him.
Beckford, who was accused of forcibly sexually assaulting a woman on Tuesday, was charged with first-degree rape, first-degree unlawful sexual contact, first-degree assault, and aggravated assault and battery.
Unable to make bail of $50,000, Beckford was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advisement hearing.
This case as of Wednesday was under investigation by the V.I.P.D.'s Criminal Investigation Bureau.
