ST. CROIX — A man who allegedly assaulted his pregnant girlfriend was arrested and jailed Friday after police responded to the scene.

According to V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima, on Friday at roughly 11:32 a.m., police arrested Rhasanie Hendrickson, age 18 of Mount Pleasant West, charging him with aggravated assault and battery, domestic violence.

Hendrickson allegedly assaulted his pregnant significant other, causing visible injuries. The victim was transported by police to the Juan Francisco Luis Hospital & Medical Center for treatment. Hendrickson was not offered bail, pursuant to the territory’s domestic violence statutes, and he was turned over to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections pending his advisement hearing.

St. Croix District Chief of Police Sidney Elskoe reminds the community that there is no excuse for domestic violence. “During disagreements, tempers may flare. However, resorting to violence against your significant other will get you arrested,” Chief Elskoe said. He suggested taking a “time out” from the situation, allowing tempers to cool.
