ST. THOAMS — A man is facing felony firearms charges after police discovered a gun and a ski mask in his vehicle during a traffic stop in St. Thomas.

According to court documents, officers were patrolling Market Square on Tuesday afternoon when they noticed a green Honda Accord with old license plates and an expired registration sticker. They attempted a traffic stop, and the vehicle initially pulled over. However, as an officer exited his marked police vehicle, the Accord reportedly drove off, running a stoplight.

The police followed the car to Grand Hotel Square, where it tried to drive up onto the sidewalk. Officers managed to stop the Honda a second time, and the driver complied with instructions. When asked to produce his documents, the driver – identified as Angelo Del Rosario Jean – showed officers expired registration and insurance papers in another individual's name. He admitted he did not have a driver's license.

Jean, 18, also admitted to having a gun in the vehicle but said he did not have a license for the firearm. A search of the Accord yielded a handgun, a black ski mask, and a quantity of suspected marijuana. Jean was ticketed for his traffic violations and arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of ammunition.

Bail was set at $50,000, and Jean was remanded into custody to await his first court appearance, scheduled for Thursday. However, public court records do not indicate if the hearing was held or the outcome of the proceedings.
