ST. CROIX — Authorities have arrested 20-year-old Ervin Noel Jr. in connection with a February 28 shooting near Legendz Lounge in Frederiksted, and have charged him with multiple firearm-related offenses following a traffic stop on Friday, May 9.

According to the V.I. Police Department, an arrest warrant for Noel was issued on Tuesday, May 6 following an investigation into the February shooting incident.

At approximately 11:52 a.m. on May 9, members of the Rapid Intervention Team (R.I.T.) conducted a traffic stop near the Reinholdt Jackson Sports Complex (Whim Ball Park). The vehicle, a black BMW 3 Series, was pulled over for lacking a license plate.

Upon approaching the car, officers identified Ervin Noel Jr. as the front passenger. He was presented with a copy of the arrest warrant and detained without incident.

The driver of the vehicle was unable to provide any documentation for the vehicle—driver’s license, registration, or proof of insurance. As a result, a wrecker was called to remove the vehicle from the scene. Before towing, an inventory of the car and its contents was conducted in the presence of the driver.

During that inventory, officers discovered a firearm magazine and ammunition under the front passenger seat. The VIPD Firearms Bureau was contacted and confirmed that no firearm or ammunition license had been issued to Ervin Noel Jr. as of that date, the VIPD said.

Following the discovery, Noel was transported to the Police Operations Building, where he told detectives from the Criminal Investigation Bureau that the firearm items found under the seat belonged to him.

Noel was formally arrested for first-degree reckless endangerment based on the existing arrest warrant. Bail for that charge was set at $100,000.00. He was also charged with carrying a firearm, whether openly or concealed, and unauthorized possession of ammunition. Bail for those additional charges was set at $50,000.00.

Unable to post bail, Ervin Noel Jr. was remanded to the John A. Bell Adult Correctional Facility, where he is currently awaiting an Advice of Rights hearing.
