ST. CROIX — Trespassing charges have been made against a man who police say gained unauthorized access to a restricted area of the Henry Rohlsen Airport.
Michael Brathwaite was arrested last Wednesday after police were notified that a man was walking without shoes under the breezeway within the Airport Operation Area. According to the probable cause fact sheet accompanying his arrest, police made contact with Brathwaite and escorted him to the VIPA Police Office without incident.
Police noted that Brathwaite told them that he did not do anything wrong and that he was just looking for help. The fact sheet also states that the man told police he was trying to get away from Alphonso who was speaking to him in his head. He also asked the police officer whether they could hear Alphonso speaking to him. He further told police that he did not know how he got to the Airport Operating Area where they found him.
Police noted that Brathwaite was discovered on his own and was seen walking by himself on surveillance footage. They also emphasized that there are ‘NO TRESPASSING' signs posted on the airport perimeter fence line and that Brathwaite gained unauthorized access without security clearance.
Following his arrest, Brathwaite was charged with trespass and was turned over to the John Bell Correctional Facility until his advice of rights hearing on Friday. At that hearing the defendant’s bail was reduced from $1000 to $500 which he will be allowed to post as an unsecured bond.
