Marciano L. Rivera By. The Virgin Islands Police Department

ST. THOMAS — Marciano L. Rivera on Monday was arrested and charged with first-degree rape after he was positively identified as the person who raped a victim on multiple occasions, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima has announced.

Not much else about the case was divulged; Mr. Derima said because of the sensitivity of the investigation, the V.I.P.D. is not revealing case details. "If we release anything else at this very moment it could jeopardize the case," Mr. Derima told the Consortium. "We worded (the release) this way because of the sensitivity of the case."

Bail for Mr. Rivera was set at $100,000 by order of the court, and he was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advisement hearing.
