Man Arrested For Cashing Two Counterfeit VI Housing Authority Checks

ST. CROIX — On Sunday at around 11:21 a.m., 27-year-old Michael Delande of Strawberry Hill turned himself in to police after learning that he was wanted, the V.I.P.D. has made known Tuesday.

According to Toby Derima, the police department's public information officer, Delande was charged with passing forged bills or notes, obtaining money by false pretenses, forgery, grand larceny and identity theft.

The V.I.P.D. said that on April 19, 2018, the Economic Crimes Unit initiated an investigation that revealed that Delande cashed two counterfeit Virgin Islands Housing Authority checks totaling over $1,000 using his real identity in Plaza Extra West.

Unable to make bail of $50,000, Delande was remanded to the Golden Grove Detention Center pending his advisement hearing.
