ST. CROIX — Police on Thursday arrested Yahya K. Daniel of Estate St. John — a former V.I.P.D. officer who currently works at the Dept. of Justice — charging him with simple assault and battery for assaulting a woman that he had an intimate relationship with.
According V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima, Mr. Daniel was arrested at 11:57 p.m. Thursday. The V.I.P.D. investigation revealed that the assault left visible injuries on the female victim's person.
Adhering to local domestic violence laws, no bail was granted to Mr. Daniel, and he was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advisement hearing.
Burglary Reported in Estate Paradise
Also on Thursday at 4:04 p.m., the 911 emergency call center received a report of a burglary at Estate Paradise.
Upon the patrol officers’ arrival, they contacted the complainant who stated that her home was burglarized while her minor children were inside. The suspect entered the home through a back window and stole numerous items, the complainant told police.
