Man Arrested for Allegedly Punching, Strangling Woman During Dispute

ST. THOMAS -- Police on Friday at about 11:50 p.m. arrested Alton Vidal, 46, and charged him with second-degree assault for allegedly punching and strangling a woman, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima has announced.

The victim reported that Mr. Vidal assaulted her during a dispute. The victim sustained injuries from the assault and sought medical attention at the Schneider Regional Medical Center's emergency room, according to Mr. Derima.

Mr. Vidal was contacted at his home and placed under arrest. He was not offered bail as per the territory's domestic violence laws, and was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advisement hearing.

This case is presently under investigation, Mr. Derima said.
