ST. CROIX — A man flying into the Henry E. Rohlsen Airport was arrested after Customs and Border Protection officials found marijuana in his checked luggage.

According to court records, last Thursday Tristin Carr was a passenger on an American Airlines flight out of the Tampa International Airport to St. Croix via Miami. Once the plane had arrived, CBP officials x-rayed the checked luggage coming off the flight according to protocol. Officials say once they spotted “anomalies” in the bags bearing Carr's name, they placed them on the baggage claim carousel to see who would come to retrieve them.

Carr came to pick up his bags, and officials escorted him into a secondary inspection area where the luggage was opened and searched. Enforcement officers reportedly found vacuum sealed bags containing a total of 6.14 kilograms of a green leafy substance which presented positive results when tested for marijuana.

Carr was promptly arrested and charged with possession of an illicit substance on board an aircraft. The matter is now before U.S. Magistrate Emile Henderson III.
