According to police, officers were dispatched to a gas station in Christiansted, where they located a woman who had concealed herself inside a portable toilet. After officers identified themselves, the visibly distressed woman emerged and reported that her boyfriend, Miguel Cotto, had stabbed her in the leg.

The woman told police that she had been arguing with Cotto and another man inside the gas station when Cotto allegedly placed a sharp object against her neck and led her outside. The argument continued outside the building, where she said Cotto stabbed her in the right calf.

Police reported that Cotto admitted to stabbing the woman and told officers he had already discarded the blade used in the incident.

Despite the alleged victim’s objections, police arrested Cotto and charged him with third-degree assault and simple assault and battery, both classified as crimes of domestic violence. He was also charged with possession of a dangerous weapon during a crime of violence and disturbance of the peace.
