ST. THOMAS — Two men were arrested this week on separate charges in St. Thomas, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima has announced.
Jan. 21: Man Arrested After Assaulting Man with Gun
On Tuesday at around 11:56 p.m., police arrested Vincent Wiltshire, Jr., age 31 of Estate Lang Math, and charged him with third-degree assault, possession of an unlicensed firearm, and brandishing and exhibiting and reckless endangerment.
Officers were dispatched to the Veggie Plus Restaurant in Four Winds Plaza and were told by the victim that he was at the bar when Wiltshire approached him and asked him what he was looking at. The victim stated that Wiltshire then assaulted him with a handgun. The victim sustained a laceration to his face and was treated at the Roy Lester Schneider Hospital and released.
Unable to make bail of $100,000, Wiltshire was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advisement hearing.
Jan. 22: Man Charged with Second-Degree Assault
On Wednesday at approximately 7 p.m., 27-year-old Merwin C. Potter, Jr. of Estate Bovoni turned himself in to detectives of the Domestic Violence Unit, who arrested and charged him with second-degree assault, domestic violence.
On Monday, officers were dispatched to Annas Retreat in reference to an assault. The victim stated that Potter, who is her former boyfriend, entered her residence without permission and assaulted her while he was in possession of a firearm. The victim sustained minor injuries in the incident.
Potter was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advisement hearing as no bail was given in accordance with the territory's domestic violence laws.
