ST. CROIX — V.I.P.D. officers on Thursday  afternoon arrested a man and a woman on child abuse and assault charges, with the male suspect facing assault allegations while the female suspect was charged with neglect and child abuse for allegedly attempting to mislead authorities by presenting a child who had not been assaulted.

That's according to V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima, who revealed the suspects to be Kenyatta Horsford, age 44 of Estate Cane and Linda Williams, age 33 of Mount Pleasant Apartments.

Hosford was charged with first-degree assault and aggravated child abuse and neglect, while Williams was charged with child abuse, child neglect "and other relevant charges," according to the V.I.P.D.

An investigation into the matter revealed that Horsford assaulted the minor victim. However, Williams attempted to mislead V.I. Department of Human Services employees and police by presenting another minor child during the investigation, said police. When Williams eventually produced the minor victim who was assaulted, the child was found to be severely injured, according to the news release.

The minor victim was transported to the Juan Luis Hospital & Medical Center via police vehicle for treatment and was listed as being in critical condition.

Horsford and Williams were unable to make bail amounts of $75,000 and $60,000 respectively, and they were remanded to the Golden Grove Correctional Facility pending their advisement hearings.
