ST. THOMAS — Bail has been set for a man accused of stealing money from an individual in a daring daylight robbery.
Zedikhi Innis is alleged to have stopped a man who was riding his scooter in the area of Rumer Drive early on Tuesday morning, grabbing him by his shirt and pulling him off the scooter. The man told police that he fell to the ground when Innis pulled him. He further reported that while Innis had grabbed him by the collar with one hand, he used the other hand to reach into his pocket and take out his money. The fact sheet did not indicate how much money was stolen.
According to the individual, Innis then left, but the victim remained in the area until police arrived.
When officers arrived at the location the alleged victim was able to point out Innis as the perpetrator. However, when police approached the suspect, he became aggressive, throwing glass bottles and a chair towards the officers, according to the probable cause fact sheet. He then ran off in the area of Oswald Harris Court Community Housing, prompting the officers to pursue him on foot. They were eventually able to apprehend Innis and he was arrested and charged with third-degree robbery, grand larceny and third-degree assault.
On Monday a judge set bail for Innis at $25,000 noting that he will be released on the posting of 15 percent. The judge noted that the defendant already has quite a few prior charges, including a conviction for attempted robbery in 2019.
While the matter remains pending Innis is prohibited from having any form of contact with the victim and has been ordered not to go to his place of residence or employment.
