ST. THOMAS — Police on Monday arrested 44-year-old Joseph Henschel for allegedly holding a woman against her will in an apartment for several days, while assaulting her during that time, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima has announced.
According to the police report, on Monday at around 6:18 p.m., detectives arrested Henschel, of no fixed address, and charged him with false imprisonment, domestic violence.
On June 2, detectives interviewed the victim at the Roy L. Schneider Regional Medical Center who stated that Henschel locked her in an apartment against her will for several days, keeping her mobile phone from her. The victim was eventually able to get to a phone and messaged friends for help. When the victim’s friends went to the apartment to check on her, she was able to escape as Henschel opened the door.
Henschel also reportedly assaulted the victim during that time, leaving her with visible injuries to her face, legs, head, arms, and ribs that required medical attention.
Henschel was not offered bail as per the territory’s domestic violence statutes. He was turned over to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections pending his advisement hearing.
