Man Allegedly Kidnaps Ex-Girlfriend at Gunpoint, Assaults Her With Firearm

ST. THOMAS — A St. Thomas man has been arrested after allegedly kidnapping his former girlfriend at gunpoint and assaulting her with the firearm.

According to V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima, 23-year-old Shamar Lewis of Lindbergh Bay allegedly took his former partner against her will at gunpoint from her home around 10:45 p.m. on Tuesday. During the abduction, Lewis assaulted the victim with the firearm, then returned the victim to her home, according to the V.I.P.D.

On Wednesday at 8:00 a.m., V.I.P.D. Domestic Violence Unit detectives arrested  Lewis and charged him with kidnapping, domestic violence and third-degree assault, domestic violence.

According to the V.I.P.D., Lewis was remanded to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections without bail, in accordance with territorial domestic violence laws, pending his advisement hearing.
