ST. CROIX — Police have charged a man accused of forcefully entering his girlfriend’s home and assaulting her.

Darnel Willock was arrested on Thursday after police were dispatched to Union Mount Washington in reference to an assault.

The victim stated that she and her boyfriend Darnel Willock had been involved in an ongoing argument for two days. She told police that on Thursday morning he showed up at her residence unannounced and approached her front door. She knew he had keys for one of the doors so she locked it with the latch to prevent him from entering. She then left the house through another door and heard Willock pushing on the door to gain access.

According to the woman, Willock eventually forcefully gained access into the home, damaging the door in the process. While he was in the house looking for her she hid outside and waited to see if he would leave but he did not. He then called out to her “you geh the food in ya burning” and moments later she began to smell burnt food from the stove. She indicated that she entered the house to turn off the stove and while doing so Willock grabbed her around the waist, picked her up and slammed her onto the couch. The woman recounted that he told her, “I gon make you listen to me and you gon’ feel how I had feel.”

She said she kept trying to push him off of her so that she could call 911, and she was eventually able to exit the house but he kept trying to get her inside. Willock allegedly threatened her while making obscene gestures and continuing to grab her by the waist and arms. They lost their balance and fell to the ground during the struggle and began to tussle.  She told police that she kicked him in the groin in self-defense so that he could get off her and she then got up. He kept trying to get into her face but she repeatedly shoved him away.

According to the woman, Willock then sat in her doorway and refused to leave. She ran inside to get her phone and called 911 while standing in the roadway. He kept asking who she was speaking to then allegedly grabbed the phone and flung it away when he noticed that it was police.

When police arrived, they located the cellphone on the property with a broken screen. They observed that the victim had sustained minor scratches to her shoulder, chest and arm and also took notice of the damaged door hanging off the frame. Willock was subsequently placed under arrest and charged with unlawful entry, destruction of property and simple assault and battery, all categorized as crimes of domestic violence. He was also charged with disturbance of the peace.

At his advisement hearing on Friday, bail was set at $1,000 and judge Yolan Brow Ross explained that he would be allowed to post $101 in cash and sign an unsecured bond for the remainder. Upon his release, Willock must abide by a 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. curfew and has been ordered to remain at least 1,000 feet from the victim at all times. The judge stressed that he is to have absolutely no contact with the woman, not even through third parties or via messaging.
