ST. THOMAS — A joint law enforcement effort on Dec. 11 led by the V.I. Police Department resulted in the recovery of 5.5 kilograms of cocaine in Annas Retreat, St. Thomas, according to the VIPD.
The operation was initiated after authorities received an anonymous tip about a wanted homicide suspect in the area.
Officers conducted a thorough search in Annas Retreat to apprehend the suspect but were unable to locate the individual. However, during their inspection, law enforcement personnel discovered a bag containing multiple packages of what was suspected to be a controlled substance. Subsequent testing confirmed the substance as cocaine, weighing a total of 5.5 kilograms.
The confiscated narcotics were turned over to the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA) program, which is responsible for coordinating federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to combat drug trafficking, the VIPD made known.
