Late-Night Gunfire Claims Life of Young St. Thomas Resident

The VIPD calls for tips following the shooting death of 20-year-old Omar K. Fontaine

ST. THOMAS — An  shooting incident that occurred late Thursday night in the Bovoni Housing Community resulted in the death of a young man due to multiple gunshot wounds.

According to the V.I. Police Department, the ShotSpotter Detection System alerted law enforcement to gunshots at approximately 11:11 p.m. on Thursday.

Responding officers from the Mariel C. Newton Command arrived at the scene to find an unresponsive black male, later identified by family as 20-year-old Omar K. Fontaine, lying on the ground. Emergency Medical Technicians declared Fontaine deceased at the scene, confirming he had suffered multiple gunshot injuries.

The VIPD said the Major Crimes Unit is actively investigating the homicide and is urging anyone with information to come forward.
