ST. CROIX — A second person shot at the Corner Pocket nightclub in Estate La Reine on February 27 has died, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima has announced. The announcement brings to eight the number of people who died during a spate of shootings that spanned Feb. 26- March 2. A total of 14 people were shot during the incidents.
According to Mr. Derima, Baptiste was one of six persons shot at the nightclub, when a verbal dispute escalated to an apparent gun battle. Baptiste was airlifted to a hospital on the mainland for treatment, where he died on March 6.
Mr. Derima said detectives are urging anyone with information in this and other recent shooting incidents on St. Croix to contact police by calling 911, the Crime TipLine at (340) 778-4950, or anonymously to Crime Stoppers USVI at (800) 222-TIPS.
