ST. THOMAS — A man is facing domestic violence charges after reportedly admitting to a December incident in which he assaulted his drunk ex-girlfriend.
The woman first went to police on December 21, 2025 to report the assault, which occurred approximately a week prior. Last week, she returned to provide a statement to the Domestic Violence Unit.
According to court records, the woman said that on the night in question, she was out with friends when she realized that she was too intoxicated to drive herself home. She told police that she called William Jeffers for a ride, hoping to sober up a bit and rejoin her friends later. Jeffers and the woman had been broken up for two years, but still maintained a cordial relationship, she said.
Jeffers picked up the intoxicated woman and brought her back to his house. She says she was drifting in and out of sleep during the ride, and when they got to the house she went upstairs and fell asleep on his bed.
The woman said that she was awakened about an hour later by Jeffers trying to pull her pants down from around her waist. She told police that she declined his advances and had to struggle to get him off her. Now enraged, Jeffers reportedly hit the woman in the face and threw a standing fan to the floor while calling her derogatory names.
Feeling unsafe, the woman said that she went downstairs and called her mother to tell her what happened. In her haste to leave she dropped her keys, she said. Jeffers picked them up and hit her again, in the eye and then the mouth. She began to scream and the noise drew neighbors out of their homes. The woman told police that her screaming caused Jeffers to leave the area, after which she called a friend for a ride.
Jeffers came to the Richard Callwood Command police station on Thursday evening and reportedly admitted to assaulting the woman, describing the incident as a mistake.
He was arrested and charged with simple assault as a crime of domestic violence and disturbance of the peace. According to court records, Jeffers appeared before Magistrate Julie Smith Todman on Friday, although the outcome has not yet been made available to the public. The next court appearance for Jeffers is scheduled for February 13.
