ST. THOMAS — In a violent episode that unfolded in Oswald Harris Court on Saturday night, unknown suspects in a Black Acura RDX fired at police officers during a search operation, subsequently fleeing the scene, the VIPD has confirmed to the Consortium. An innocent bystander was caught in the crossfire, sustaining a gunshot wound to the foot.

The V.I. Police Department's Patrol Division had initially responded to a situation in Lockhart Gardens, where the same vehicle's driver brandished a firearm at a woman. After receiving this report, officers conducted a search of the surrounding areas to locate the suspect vehicle. Upon spotting the car in Oswald Harris Court at about 11:00 p.m., the officers found themselves under fire before they could approach the vehicle. The suspects managed to escape, leaving behind an injured bystander who was promptly rushed to Schnieder Regional Medical Center for treatment.

The identities of the suspects remain unknown, as do their ages and addresses. Charges of third-degree assault and reckless endangerment are expected once the suspects are apprehended, although the bail amount has not yet been determined.

The incident is currently under investigation by the Criminal Investigation Bureau. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact 911, the Criminal Investigation Bureau, the Chief's Office, or Detective Y. Loblack at 340-774-2211 ext. 5573.
