ST. CROIX — A routine traffic patrol in St. Croix led to an unexpected discovery on Thursday, November 9, when police officers patrolling the Sunny Isles area noticed a black Acura TSX being driven without visible license plates.

The vehicle was subsequently stopped in the vicinity of the old H&H Tire and Battery location.

During the course of the traffic stop, the driver, identified as Clijon James Hamilton, was found to be in possession of an unlicensed firearm, according to the VIPD. The firearm was located under the driver's seat of the vehicle. At the time of the stop, Hamilton, 27, was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

Following the discovery, Hamilton was placed under arrest. He faces charges for unauthorized possession of an unlicensed firearm, with  bail set at $50,000.

The VIPD did not report whether the suspect made bail, or whether he was scheduled for an advice of rights hearing either on Monday, Wednesday or Friday, the days such hearings are normally held in the territory.
