Hospital Ground Man Wanted by Police Detained at Airport Attempted to Leave Territory

ST. THOMAS — Police on Sunday afternoon arrested a Hospital Ground man after he was found to be in possession of an unlicensed firearm, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima has announced. The suspect, identified as Akeem Dijhani Julien, was first detained by the feds at the Cyril E. King Airport on Sunday attempting to leave the territory.

Julien, 24, was observed on surveillance placing a black firearm into a duffel bag in Hospital Ground, in the vicinity of Jah Yard, on April 8, Mr. Derima said. He was detained by Homeland Security Investigations at the Cyril E. King Airport attempting to leave the island. HSI contacted VIPD detectives, who placed Julien under arrest.

Unable to post bail of $25,000, Julien was turned over to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections pending his advisement hearing.
