The V.I. Police Department’s Economic Crimes Unit has arrested 55-year-old Alicia Caleb, an employee of Gallows Bay Hardware, in connection with an embezzlement scheme that investigators say involved the theft of company funds and fraudulent use of store gift cards.

According to police, the investigation began on August 20, 2025, when the business owner of Gallows Bay Hardware filed a formal complaint alleging employee embezzlement. Detectives uncovered a detailed scheme in which Caleb and a managerial accomplice allegedly conspired to divert company funds for their personal use.

Investigators said that the accomplice, who held managerial authority, manipulated Gallows Bay Hardware’s gift card roster and provided Caleb with card information that both suspects used for their own benefit. Surveillance footage reportedly showed Caleb pretending to cash out customers while embezzling funds, which she and her accomplice later shared.

Following weeks of investigation, detectives obtained arrest warrants for both suspects. While Caleb was located and arrested, the accomplice remains at large, police said.

On October 7, 2025, detectives executed the warrant at Caleb’s residence. She was advised of her rights and taken into custody without incident. Caleb was then transported to the Wilbur H. Francis Command Police Operations Building, where she was booked and charged with embezzlement by employee, obtaining money by false pretense, grand larceny, access to computer for fraudulent purposes, and conspiracy.

According to police, the alleged embezzlement caused significant financial loss to the business. Caleb’s bail was set at $35,000. Unable to post bail, she was remanded to the John A. Bell Adult Correctional Facility pending her Advice of Rights hearing at the Superior Court of the Virgin Islands.

The VIPD’s Economic Crimes Unit continues its search for Caleb’s accomplice. Authorities have urged anyone with information on the second suspect to send an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers USVI here.
