ST. THOMAS — On Wednesday, a collaborative effort between the V.I. Police Department and U.S. Customs and Border Protection led to the apprehension of a fugitive at the Cyril E. King Airport around 11:30 a.m.
Jon William Hall, identified by authorities, was found to have an active arrest warrant issued by Monroe County, Florida, related to a 2019 hit-and-run case.
According to court documents, after confirming the warrant's validity and Monroe County's intent to extradite, VIPD officers promptly took Hall into custody.
The bench warrant for Hall's arrest was issued in March 2021 following his failure to attend a court hearing regarding the misdemeanor hit-and-run charge. The 58-year-old Hall, upon arrest, chose not to sign his advice of rights documents, citing religious reasons.
During a court session on Friday, Magistrate Paula Norkaitis decided to keep the bail set at $40,000. Represented by his attorney, Hall communicated to the court that he was still deliberating on whether to waive his right to an extradition hearing, leaving the court awaiting his decision.
