Home Depot Employee on St. Croix Arrested for $2,321 Embezzlement After VIPD Probe

VIPD’s Economic Crime Unit arrested 25-year-old Stefanie Matthew on September 8, charging her with grand larceny and embezzlement by employee after an investigation revealed she diverted over $2,300 while working at Home Depot.

ST. CROIX — Detectives with the V.I. Police Department’s Economic Crime Unit have arrested a former Home Depot employee on St. Croix for embezzlement.

According to police, the investigation began on March 6, 2025, and revealed that Stefanie Matthew, 25, knowingly used her position at Home Depot to divert at least $2,321.15 between December 2024 and March 2025.

On September 8, at about 5:38 p.m., detectives made contact with Matthew and served her arrest warrant. She was taken into custody without incident, advised of her rights, and charged with grand larceny and embezzlement by employee.

Police said Matthew was booked and processed, with bail set at $20,000 as per the standard chart. Unable to post bail, she was transported to the John A. Bell Correctional Facility, where she remains pending her Advise of Rights hearing.
