Police in the British Virgin Islands have announced the arrest of former Speaker of the House of Assembly Julian Willock.

Mr. Willock, who resigned from the post in 2022 reportedly on the request of then-acting Premier Dr. Natalio Wheatley, was arrested in connection with two separate police investigations: one involving a forged document that was submitted to the territory’s immigration department in 2022, and the other probing visa waivers that were issued between 2018 and 2022.

He was charged with conspiracy to provide false information to a person employed in the public service, conspiracy to uttering a forged document, and being a public official using his office for gratification.

Mr. Willocks was granted bail in the sum of $50,000 and is expected to appear in court next on September 12.
