Former BVI Port Authority Director Oleanvine Maynard
In a Miami courtroom on Thursday, former BVI Port Authority Managing Director Oleanvine Maynard was sentenced to nine years and four months in prison.

Presiding Judge Kathleen Williams handed down the sentence for Ms. Maynard’s role in a conspiracy to traffic cocaine and launder the resulting revenue. According to prosecutors, the scheme to allow drug-laden ships to use the BVI as safe harbor during their journey from Colombia to Miami included her son Kadeem and former BVI Premier Andrew Fahie. Kadeem Maynard is currently serving a 57-month sentence, while Mr. Fahie’s sentencing has been pushed back yet again, this time to August 5.
The trio was arrested during the culmination of a sting operation, in which both Mr. Fahie and Oleanvine Maynard traveled to Miami to inspect a plane carrying fake currency they believed was their initial payment for facilitating the drug trafficking scheme. They were led separately to the plane by undercover agents and each arrested as they departed the aircraft. During the operation, while in discussion with the DEA confidential source at the center of the sting, Ms. Maynard is reported to have warned about the former premier’s penchant for activities outside the color of law. “He’s a little crook sometimes,” she was recorded as saying to the source. Ms. Maynard also testified against her former boss during his trial.

During sentencing, Judge Williams indicated that the term of incarceration for the 62-year old woman was set below the indicated range of between 11 and 14 years due to factors including her age, medical issues, first-time offender status, and prompt guilty plea.
