18-Year-Old Allegedly Breaks Front Door of Home, Assaults Family Member and Destroys Laptop

ST. CROIX — An 18-year-old man from St. Croix was arrested Thursday morning for allegedly breaking into the home he resides in. The young man also assaulted another occupant of the home and destroyed a device, according to police.

In a news release issued by V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima, the suspect, identified as Josiah Keels of La Grade Princesse, was charged with second-degree assault, domestic violence, second-degree burglary, domestic violence, and damage of property, domestic violence.

According to police, Keels was ordered outside the home by other occupants to calm himself during a dispute. After a while he attempted to reenter the home, only to find that the front door was locked. Keels proceeded to break the door, enter the home and assault one of the occupants. He also smashed a laptop by flinging it, destroying the device, according to police.

No bail was set for Keels as per the territory’s domestic violence statues, and he was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advisement hearing.
