ST. CROIX — A teenager was pronounced dead early Sunday following a shootout outside the Climax Sportsbar and Nightclub in Peter's Rest, according to the V.I. Police Department.
The incident, which occurred just before 5:00 a.m. Sunday, left five wounded and six shot in total, with one of the wounded on life support, the V.I.P.D. reported.
The deceased victim was still on the crime scene — which spans almost the entire stretch of businesses beginning at Royal Furniture from north and FedEx at the bottom — as of 8:00 a.m., with forensic officers sweeping the area in search of clues and evidence as part of their investigation.
According to the V.I.P.D., ShotSpotter, a technology used by the police department to detect gunfire, recorded 77 gunshot rounds, leading to a scramble as law enforcement and emergency personnel dispatched to the area. The 911 Emergency Call Center received the first report at 4:49 a.m., the V.I.P.D. said.
There were no suspects in custody at time of publication, nor had a motive been established. The V.I.P.D. says it is investigating the matter and is urging anyone with information to send an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers USVI here, or the CIB Tipline at 340-778-4950 or 340 712 6092.
