ST. CROIX — A man from Campo Rico who is said to have opened fire on police Friday morning was arrested and levied multiple charges.
According to V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima, on Friday at roughly 7:00 a.m., police arrested Charles Frazer, age 26 of Campo Rico and him with attempted Murder, first-degree reckless endangerment, aiming and discharging a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, carrying a firearm openly or concealed, and possession of ammunition.
The news release states that during the execution of a warrant by officers of the Criminal Investigation and Special Operations Bureaus at a residence in Estate Campo Rico, an occupant in the residence, later identified as Frazer, discharged one round through his bedroom door, striking an officer’s Ballistic Entry Shield. No one was hurt in the incident. The firearm used in the shooting was confiscated, and a search of the bedroom produced firearm magazines loaded with ammunition.
Unable to post bail of $100,000, Frazer was remanded to the Golden Grove Detention Center pending his advisement hearing.
Sidney Elskoe, St. Croix district chief of police, expressed concern about the incident and said he was relieved that no one was injured. He also commended his officers’ restraint. “Our officers displayed an amazing amount of control, choosing not to return fire after the suspect who fired on them,” Chief Eslkoe said.
