ST. JOHN — A man was arrested Thursday after surveillance footage showed him burglarizing a St. John home.
According to Toby Derima, the V.I.P.D. spokesman, on Thursday at roughly 5:30 a.m., police arrested 20-year-old Khalid Smith of Estate Bellvue on a warrant and charged him with first-degree burglary, using a weapon during the commission of a crime of violence, possession of an unlicensed firearm, petit larceny, and possession of an unlicensed firearm within 1,000 feet of a school.
According to the news release, Smith, armed with a gun, was observed on surveillance entering a residence in Estate Glucksberg on December 23, 2020. He allegedly removed items worth over $1000 while the residents were asleep.
Unable to make bail of $100,000, Smith was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advisement hearing.
Detectives were still investigating the incident as of Thursday along with other burglaries in the Glucksberg area, Mr. Derima said.
