Police in the British Virgin Islands announced three arrests last week, in connection with a major human trafficking investigation.

A terse statement from the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force said of the three people arrested, 37-year-old Genette Colastin was charged with several human trafficking related offenses, while the other two people were released pending further investigation.

Four suspected human trafficking victims "from another island" were also rescued in last Thursday's operation, and are now in the hands of the BVl Immigration Department.

Police Commissioner Mark Collins called the ongoing investigation complex and far-reaching.

“Human trafficking also known as modern day slavery is a problem all over the world. If you have any suspicion of human trafficking, I urge you to call Crime Stoppers anonymously," the Commissioner said.
