ST. CROIX — The V.I. Police Department announced on Tuesday that it is investigating a burglary at Eulalie Rivera K-8 School, where thieves stole multiple kitchen appliances from the school’s cafeteria, which has been under renovation since the devastation of Hurricane Maria.
According to the police report, officers were dispatched to the school on Monday, February 3, after receiving a report that the burglary had already occurred. Investigators believe the theft took place between 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 2, and 4:50 p.m. on Monday, February 3.
Stolen Items and Impact on the School
Among the items stolen from the school cafeteria, VIPD listed the following:
- One stainless steel 50-gallon ice machine with a black lid
- One Ridge brand tile cutter/saw
- Two commercial-grade six-burner ovens
- One orange and silver electric drill
- One commercial hood with double ventilation
School officials have expressed concern over the setback, noting that students and parents rely on the cafeteria for daily breakfast and lunch services. Eulalie Rivera K-8 School Principal, Loretta Moorhead, said that the loss of these appliances further complicates the long-delayed restoration of the cafeteria, which has remained non-operational since Hurricane Maria.
VIPD said it is actively investigating the burglary and has urged anyone with information to come forward. Individuals with relevant details are encouraged to contact 911, VIPD at (340) 778-2211, or Crime Stoppers VI at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
