ST. THOMAS – Authorities have arrested a 32-year-old man in connection with a brutal assault on an elderly man that was captured on camera footage.
According to the V.I. Police Department, Richard Lazarus was charged with multiple offenses, including first-degree assault, third-degree assault, aiding and abetting, elderly abuse, and disturbance of the peace.
The incident occurred on Monday, May 1, at around 8:15 a.m. According to the police department, Lazarus was seen repeatedly beating the elderly man with a chain in the footage. He turned himself in to the authorities and was read his Miranda Rights before being handed over to the Bureau of Corrections.
Lazarus's bail was set at $75,000.00.
