ST. THOMAS — A man was arrested on Wednesday for reportedly assaulting his girlfriend and forcing her to perform sexual acts on him against her will.
According to court documents, on Tuesday the woman went to police to report that she was assaulted, and the next day gave a statement to officers of the Domestic Violence Unit. She said she was asleep around 5 o'clock Tuesday morning when Valmon Glasford came home to their shared residence.
When the woman opened her eyes, her boyfriend was reportedly standing over her unclothed. She told police he asked her to perform a sexual act on him. When she declined, an argument began. The couple went back and forth, with him insisting and her declining. She said he told her that he could go elsewhere, and she encouraged him to do so, which reportedly enraged him.
Glasford reportedly grabbed his girlfriend's arms and despite her struggles, managed to bind them, using a pink and black hair elastic to secure them behind her back. He continued insisting that she perform the act, but the woman said she continued saying “no” because she did not know where he had been and thus was uninterested in being intimate.
After failing to verbally coerce his girlfriend into performing the sexual act, Glasford reportedly wrapped his belt around her neck. The woman recounted being unable to breathe, describing her ordeal as a near-death experience. He reportedly used the belt to pull her face towards his genitals, but even in this predicament the woman refused.
She told police that her boyfriend then began to hit her, punching her and slapping her in the face. Out of fear, she said that she eventually gave in and did what he wanted. Afterwards, Glasford reportedly freed her hands and walked away, his belt still hanging from his girlfriend's neck as he got ready for work as normal.
The woman admitted to police that she had been enduring this kind of abuse for three years out of the couple's five-year relationship, but could no longer accept this kind of treatment.
On the same day the woman was giving her statement to police, officers at the Richard Callwood Command noticed a man sitting in the front lobby who fit the description the woman gave of her boyfriend. He answered inquiries by telling police that he was waiting for someone. He was identified as Glasford by one of the women's friends who was also in the waiting area.
Questioned by police, Glasford denied the allegations against him, but was arrested and charged with first-degree rape, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, and simple assault, all as crimes of domestic violence. He was also charged with disturbance of the peace, and remanded into custody to await his first court appearance, scheduled for Thursday morning.
Glasford is no stranger to law enforcement. In February 2022, he faced life in prison after being accused of raping a woman and holding her captive. He was arrested again in July 2023 after a violent rampage at his girlfriend’s home.
