ST. THOMAS — A man appeared in court on Monday to face charges after police responded to an auto collision on Veterans Drive.
Robert A. Greaux was arrested and charged on December 17 with driving under the influence and having an illegal blood alcohol content.
According to documents before the court, prior to responding officers' arrival to the scene, both vehicles involved in the collision were moved and kept in the Palm Passage parking lot near the Green House Restaurant & Bar.
The first vehicle was a green Toyota Tundra that sustained damages. It was at a stop facing west in the parking lot. The second vehicle was a white Toyota Tacoma facing north.
The driver of the Tacoma, Robert Greaux, was unable to keep his balance, according to the probable cause fact sheet. The officer detected a slight odor of alcohol emanating from Greaux’s breath and his eyes were red and watery. The officer asked Greaux if he had any alcoholic beverages prior to operating his vehicle, and Greaux said he did not. The standardized field sobriety tests were administered on Greaux and he failed all of them, according to court documents.
Greaux was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Traffic Investigation Bureau where he consented to the chemical intoximeter test. The results of the test showed that Greaux had a blood alcohol content of of .201, which is well above the legal level of 0.08.
In court on Monday, a judge ruled that Greaux would be released upon the posting of $500 bail. He has been barred from leaving the St. Thomas- St. John District without the court’s written permission, and must report to the Office of Probation once a week. His driving privileges were also suspended for 90 days.
