ST. JOHN — The Cinnamon Bay Beach and Campground facility in St. John was burglarized Saturday morning, with the suspects — believed to be several males wearing ski masks — damaging and removing an ATM machine from the site and leaving with it, according to V.I.P.D. Director of Communications Glen Dratte.
Cinnamon Bay is one of several properties under the authority of the National Park Service in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The facility offers overnight accommodations, restaurants, beach rentals and activities, according to its website.
According to the the V.I.P.D. release, on Saturday at approximately 9:26 a.m., detectives with the Criminal Investigation Unit were notified of the burglary, which had occurred about an hour and a half earlier.
A male contacted the 911 Emergency Call Center at about 8:00 a.m. Saturday to report that his workplace was burglarized. The male stated that several males entered onto the Cinnamon Bay Beach and Campground property wearing ski masks and gained entry by using a tool to damage a plexiglass door. The employee stated that once inside, the males removed an ATM and fled in an unknown direction. It was not yet known how much money the ATM had inside.
This case is presently under investigation by the Criminal Investigation Bureau.
