A St. Croix man has been arrested following a months-long investigation into a shooting near the Sunny Isles intersection in November 2025 that left a victim hospitalized, according to the V.I. Police Department. Authorities also reported a separate arrest on St. Thomas involving an alleged assault with a tire wrench and knife.
Both arrests were detailed in news releases issued Wednesday by the VIPD.
Arrest Made in Investigation of Sunny Isle Shooting
Police reported that on November 8, 2025, at approximately 2:58 a.m., the 911 Emergency Call Center received a report of a shooting near the Sunny Isles intersection on St. Croix.
Shortly afterward, officers were informed that a gunshot victim had arrived at the Juan F. Luis Hospital Emergency Room. Responding patrol officers who arrived at the scene discovered multiple spent shell casings in the roadway.
A detective assigned to the Criminal Investigation Bureau was tasked with continuing the investigation.
According to police, the investigation led detectives to identify Rashoy Burke as a possible suspect in the shooting.
On February 25, search warrants for Burke’s residence and vehicle were signed by a Superior Court judge.
Members of the Criminal Investigation Bureau and Special Operations Bureau executed the search warrants on the morning of March 4.
During the search, officers recovered a firearm, magazines, and ammunition, and Burke was taken into custody.
Rashoy Burke, 20, was arrested and charged with Carrying a firearm openly or concealed and Possession or sale of ammunition.
Bail for Burke was set at $50,000.00.
Police said Burke was booked and transported to the John Bell Adult Correction Facility pending his Advice of Rights Hearing scheduled for March 5, 2026, in Superior Court.
St. Thomas Disturbance Leads to Arrest
In a separate case on St. Thomas, officers responded Tuesday, March 3 at approximately 7:06 p.m. to Contant in the area of Weslyan Church following a report of a male creating a disturbance while holding a knife.
According to police, officers arrived and observed a Black male outside holding a knife. As officers approached, the individual went inside the gate and closed it.
Officers then made contact with a male victim who stated he had gone to David Burgess’ residence to drop off a vehicle for a relative of Burgess.
The victim told police Burgess did not want him in the yard and allegedly attacked him with a tire wrench and a knife, striking him twice in the head with the wrench and threatening to kill him.
Police said the victim showed officers a video recorded on his phone that reportedly showed Burgess assaulting him with the tire wrench.
Officers observed a laceration on the victim’s head, but the victim refused medical treatment from Emergency Medical Technicians.
Police detained Burgess, who was positively identified by the complainant as the individual who assaulted him.
David Burgess, 40, was arrested and charged with third-degree assault, disturbance of the peace, and delaying and obstructing officers discharging their duties.
Police said Burgess was booked and processed and then turned over to the Bureau of Corrections pending his Advice of Rights Hearing.
Bail for Burgess was set at $25,000.00 by order of the court.
