ST.  CROIX — Police are investigating an attempted robbery at The Palms at Pelican Cove after two armed suspects confronted visitors in the hotel parking area Friday night, demanding the keys to their rental vehicle before fleeing the scene with the key.

According to the VIPD, the incident occurred on November 7 at approximately 9:00 p.m., when units were dispatched to the hotel in reference to the reported attempt.

Upon arrival, officers met with the victims, who explained that they were parking their rental car near their hotel room building when two males approached them with firearms and demanded the car key. One of the victims told police that the suspects entered the rental vehicle but quickly exited after noticing that it was equipped with a GPS tracking monitor.

Police say the suspects then fled the area with the rental key in a white Toyota Venza, bearing license plate CIM-586, which may have contained two additional suspects.

The victims told investigators they were unable to provide complete descriptions of the assailants because they were wearing masks and dark clothing. However, one victim described one of the suspects as a tall dark-skinned male, possibly with dreadlocks, and noted that the firearm he carried appeared to be a black handgun.

The VIPD is urging anyone with information about the crime to contact 911, the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 340-778-2211, or Crime Stoppers VI at 1-800-222-TIPS.
