ST. THOMAS — A man was shot in the knee on Wednesday in Sugar Estate following an argument with a woman, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima has announced.
The 911 Emergency Call Center was notified of the incident at approximately 1:24 a.m. and proceeded to dispatch officers to the Schneider Regional Medical Center in reference to the shooting.
According to Mr. Derima, a resident told officers that he heard an argument between the victim and a female in Sugar Estate, followed by shots being fired. The resident further stated that he did not see who fired the shots nor did he see anyone leaving the area. The male victim was shot in the right knee and was listed in stable condition.
Police officers made contact with the victim but were unable to get any information from him, according to Mr. Derima. In an update provided to the Consortium after the publication of this story, Mr. Derima said the victim could not speak because he was sedated. It was not clear if the victim provided information to police following his sedation.
The V.I.P.D. is asking anyone with information about this shooting to contact police by calling 911, the Criminal Investigation Bureau at (340) 774-2211, or Crime Stoppers USVI at (800) 222-TIPS.
