ST. CROIX — Police are encouraging Virgin Islanders to submit tips to Crime Stoppers and the V.I.P.D. Tip Line following the successful arrest of a man found in possession of firearm and ammunition based on information provided by a resident.

According to V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima, on Tuesday at approximately 5:11 a.m., VIPD officers arrested Danny J. Delerme, age 23 of Constitution Hill, and charged him with Possession of an Unlicensed Firearm and Possession or Sale of Ammunition.

On Feb. 4, officers received an anonymous tip that Delerme was seen with a firearm inside of the Limetree Bay refinery. Contact was made with the refinery’s security personnel to advise them of the incident. Officers later made contact with Delerme and confiscated his backpack.

A search warrant was obtained to search Delerme’s backpack and an unlicensed firearm and ammunition was found. An arrest warrant was obtained as a result, and Delerme was taken into custody.

Unable to make bail of $30,000, Delereme was remanded to the Golden Grove Detention Center pending his advisement hearing.

St. Croix District Chief of Police Sidney Elskoe expressed his gratitude to the member of the community who gave the officer the tip about the firearm. “I encourage everyone who knows about a crime that is happening or is about to happen to come forward with the information,” Chief Elskoe said.

Submit tips through Crime Stoppers here, and to the V.I.P.D. Tip Line at 340-778-4950.
