Animal Cruelty Incident Leaves Dog Dead With Multiple Deep Lacerations, Police Say

ST. CROIX — On Thursday around noon, the VIPD's Animal Cruelty Investigator received a call from a citizen reporting a stray dog that she was taking care of in Estate Calquohoun was found dead earlier in the morning. The caller stated the dog appeared to have sustained several large lacerations to the body.

The detective traveled to the scene and found the dog with three large and deep lacerations to the left eye, middle of the back and front right leg, probably the result of a sharp instrument, according to V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima.

This incident, classified as first-degree annual abuse, is under investigation, according to police.

Anyone with information on this incident is urged to contact police by calling 911, the VIPD Animal Cruelty Investigator at (340) 778-2211 extension 6097, or Crime Stoppers USVI at (800) 222-TIPS.
