ST. THOMAS — Although two individuals occupied a vehicle that attempted to evade police after it was ordered to stop on Tuesday, only the passenger was arrested following the chase, as the driver managed to escape, according to the V.I.P.D. The passenger, identified as 19-year-old Jahvid Alexander, was arrested and charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm with an obliterated serial number, possession of controlled substance with intent to distribute and unlawful possession of ammunition.
V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima said officers of the Special Operations Bureau observed a vehicle on Solberg Road in the area of the former Westbay Supermarket on Monday at 3:35 p.m. and attempted a traffic stop. The driver refused when ordered to stop by officers. The driver finally stopped in the area of the A Plus Pre School, exited the vehicle and escaped on foot.
According to Mr. Derima, Mr. Alexander was apprehended. Officers found marijuana, a firearm with an obliterated serial number and additional ammunition inside the vehicle.
Mr. Alexander was arrested and transported to the Richard Callwood Command for booking.
Unable to post bail of $50,000, he was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advisement hearing.
Police continue to search for the driver of the vehicle, and the investigation into this incident is still ongoing, Mr. Derima said.
