76 Shots Fired in Strawberry Neighborhood, Three Men Injured in Overnight Gunfire

VIPD responded swiftly after ShotSpotter detected 76 rounds fired near Queen Mary Highway; three men sustained injuries, one seriously, as officers seek public assistance in the ongoing investigation.

ST. CROIX — A shooting in the Strawberry area of St. Croix on Tuesday left three men injured, prompting an ongoing investigation by the Virgin Islands Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Bureau.

According to a VIPD news release, the 911 Emergency Call Center received ShotSpotter notifications indicating 76 rounds had been fired. Multiple calls from residents followed, one reporting that a male had been shot in the hand and was being transported to the Juan F. Luis Hospital by private vehicle.

Shortly after, officers at JFL reported that two males had arrived via private vehicle with gunshot wounds. Responding VIPD officers made contact with three men in total, all of whom had sustained gunshot wounds.

One of the victims, who was shot in the upper body, was taken into surgery immediately and remains in serious but stable condition. The other two individuals were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
