ST. JOHN — A 63-year-old St. John woman was not provided an opportunity for bail as per the territory's domestic violence laws after refusing to let her boyfriend out a house they both reside in, the V.I.P.D. has announced. She also allegedly threatened to strike the boyfriend with a hammer.
According to V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima, on Monday at around 7:30 a.m., police arrested 63-year-old Carmen H. Martie of Estate Pastory and charged her with false imprisonment, domestic violence.
The victim reported that Martie threatened him with a hammer during a disagreement. Allegedly, Martie blocked the doorway, not allowing the victim to leave the location, according to the V.I.P.D. news release. Martie was arrested as a result.
Martie was not offered bail as per the territory’s domestic violence statutes, and she was turned over to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections pending her advisement hearing.
