ST. CROIX — Authorities on St. Croix are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Monday night at the Louis E. Brown Apartment complex in Frederiksted, where a woman was found unresponsive after reports of gunfire.
According to the V.I. Police Department, the 911 Emergency Call Center received multiple ShotSpotter alerts at approximately 8:16 p.m. on April 21, indicating that several gunshots had been fired in the area. Immediately after, multiple calls from residents confirmed the sound of gunfire and reported that a woman had been shot.
Officers and Emergency Medical Technicians were dispatched to the scene and located an unresponsive female lying on the sidewalk near the parking area. Upon arrival, medical personnel confirmed the victim was deceased.
The victim has been identified by a family member as 49-year-old Edna Smith.
The case remains an active investigation. The Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) is urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
