ST. CROIX — The V.I. Police Department has opened a homicide investigation after a man was shot multiple times in the Mon Bijou area of St. Croix Tuesday morning and later died from his injuries.
According to information provided by VIPD Director of Communications Glen Dratte, the 911 Emergency Call Center received a ShotSpotter notification at approximately 8:17 a.m. on Tuesday, indicating that numerous rounds had been fired in the Mon Bijou area.
Several calls were also received reporting shots fired and a male victim suffering from gunshot injuries at that location.
Officers and Emergency Medical Technicians responded to the scene and found a male victim with multiple gunshot wounds to his body. The victim was transported by ambulance to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The deceased has been identified by next of kin as 47-year-old Kaleem Iles .
The Criminal Investigation Bureau is investigating the incident.
