42-Year-Old Man Fatally Shot in Sunny Isles Shopping Center Parking Lot; Investigation Underway

The VIPD responded to reports of gunfire at 9:40 am Wednesday in the southern parking lot of Sunny Isles. The victim, identified as Alex A. Burgos, was transported to Juan Luis Hospital but succumbed to his injuries. The Major Crime Unit is investigating.

ST. CROIX — Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred at the Sunny Isles Shopping Center on Wednesday morning. According to VIPD Director of Communications Glen Dratte, officers responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 9:40 a.m. in the southern section of the parking lot, near the area where coconuts are sold.

Upon arrival, officers discovered an adult Hispanic male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency responders transported the victim by ambulance to Juan Luis Hospital for treatment. However, despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries.

The victim has been identified by next of kin as 42-year-old Alex A. Burgos. The Major Crime Unit is actively investigating the case as authorities work to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Law enforcement officials urge anyone with information related to the incident to come forward as the investigation continues.
